Production Planning Job Queue

BUSINESS VALUE / REQUIREMENT

For the requirement planning you will use the Planning Worksheets. With this you can select sepcifict items and calculate their needed quantities. But you have to start this calculation manually. If you have a lot of items (>100.000) it may be took a longer time to calculate or you have different responsible persons to plan specific parts of your items. With this Functionality you can Setup of Job Queue for Production Planning (MRP, MPS) with error log and parametrization (per Item, Location …) per User/Journal to run this every night.

For this Automatic Planning we have to Setup 2 different data:

Job Queues to Schedule Tasks - run automatical Tasks (one Setup for this Function)
Planning Run Setup - Specific Planning Filters (different Setups possible)

Job Queues

Job queues in Business Central enables users to schedule and run specific reports and codeunits. You can set jobs to run one time, or on a recurring basis. The Job Queue itself are simple timed runs of a specific Business Central Object. For our Functionality the Logic is the Codeunit 5140456.

Please open Page Job Queue Entries and Click on New.

The Page Job Queue Entry Card is opend with empty data.

Please fill the following fields on General: - Object Type to Run = Codeunit - Object ID to Run = 5140456 - Description = example Planning Run - Earliest Start Date/Time = Date and Time of the first Automatic Run (ex. Tomorrow at night time 2h)

Please fill the following fields on Recurrence: - activate any Day of the week the run should be active - Starting Time for the daily run - No. of Minutes between the single run, ex. = 60 (Minutes)

Planning Run Setup

The Setup of the single Planning Runs are on Page Planning Run Setup List:

Click on New and the Planning Run Setup Card is opend.

If you start to fill the fields the Numbering will automaticaly be set (Example see Picture ID = 4). This is a unique Number and used from the System. You can not change it. If you want, you can hide this field with Personalization.

Explanation of the Fields:

General:

ID (used by Business Central, automatic generated, not editable)
Worksheet Template = Worksheet Template to used for the results of the Planning, select from the existing List (normaly Type = Planning)

Journal Batch Name = Select from existing List or create a new Journal Batch Name (ex. Username)
Active = after setup the Card you can activate the Setup with this switch
Planning Group = Integer Value allowed to group one or more setup cards. You can specify a filter in the Parameter string field of the calling Job Queue Entry which Planning Run Setup items to execute with the current job queue entry. The filter expression must begin with the % character. Example: the parameters string of the Job Queue Entry contains "start planning groups %1..3". The Job Queue Entry will only start the Planning Run Setups with the Planning Group 1, 2 or 3.
Worksheet Error Log = Indicates that the current worksheet has entries in the Planning Error Log.
Worksheet Error Log = Indicates that the current worksheet has entries in the Planning Error Log.

Planning Run Filters:

Field Caption = Select a Field from the table Item, ex. = No.

Filter Expression = Type in the used filter, like 1* (all Items starting with "1") or 1000.1999 (from / to No.) for examples can be used for Filter Expressions see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/ui-enter-criteria-filters

You can add more lines: - No. = 1000..1999 - Replanishment System = Prod. Order - Reordering Policy = Fixed Reorder Qty.

All Filters are additional with "AND" linked, only Items that match to all filters are used for Planning.

Planning Setup

The Planning Setup is the Template for the Function Prepare, Calculate Regenerative Plan, Register Options:

Starting Date Formula = Specifies the date to use for new orders. This date is used to evaluate the inventory. The Date Formula uses the actual Date of the Planning Run + Date Formula, ex. +1D = Today + 1D = Tomorrow as Start Date (revolving for each day)
Planning Horizon = Time period to Plan from Start to End (ex. 3M = 3 Month, you can use D=Day, W=Week, M=Month, Q=Quarter, Y=Year) For Starting Date Formula and Planning Horizon see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/ui-enter-date-ranges
Use Forecast = Specifies a forecast that should be included as demand when running the planning batch job.
Exclude Planning Before = specifies how much of the selected forecast to include in the planning run, by entering a date before which forecast demand is not included.
MPS = Specifies whether to calculate a master production schedule (MPS) based on independent demand.
MRP = Specifies whether to calculate an MRP, which will calculate dependent demand that is based on the MPS.
Stop and Show First Error = Specifies whether to stop the planning run when it encounters an error. If the planning run stops, then a message is displayed with information about the first error.
Respect Planning Parameter = Specifies whether planning lines with Exception warnings will respect the planning parameters on the item or SKU card.
Planning Scale = Defines whether Refresh Planning or Net Change Planning is to be executed. Default setting is Refresh Planning. Note: The field is only displayed if "Show more" is activated in the tab.

Carry Out Messages:

Carry out Message active = if you want to create directly Production Orders from Planning Worksheet than activate this with this switch
Production Order Choice = If Carry out Message is active, select the Status of the new Production Orders (Planned, Firm Planned, Firm Planned & Print, Remove)
Assembly Order Choice = If Carry out Message is active, select the Status of the new Assembly Orders (Make Assembly Orders, Remove)
Purchase Order Choice = If Carry out Message is active, select the Status of the new Purchase Orders (Make Purch. Orders, Make Purch. Orders & Print, Remove)
Transfer Order Choice = If Carry out Message is active, select the Status of the new Transfer Orders (Make Transfer Orders, Make Transfer Orders & Print, Remove)
Combine Transfer Orders = Specifies whether to combine transfer orders with other orders that are being sent to and from the same locations.

Planning Time:

The Planning Times are used for final planning with Starting Time and Day of the Week. The Priority is used, when you plan more than one Planning run at the same starting time.

After the Setup is completed you can Test the Planning Run by Clicking Calculate Replanning:

The selected Items (see Planning Run Filters) are checked:

The Results of the Planning Run are Listed on Page Planning Worksheets (Journal Batch Name as Setup on General)

Note

If you are using more than one Planning Run (ex. for different Item groups or Employee) please check the used filter for Items. It is possible that you plan one Item with more than one Planning Run. In this case the last Planning Run will show the Results of the Planning. With every Check all Requisition Lines of this Item are be deleted automaticaly and calculated new needed Quantities. If you are missing a item in one Worksheet please check, if this item probably is planned in more than one Planning Runs.
